I think there is a bit of a difference.

Millennials have had to deal with a near constant shitty job market, constantly having to do more for less.

What they’re describing for Gen X is that a part of the economy has completely disappeared at a time when they should be high earners. The combination of lower cost digital media and an international labor pool means entire professions and trades have been wiped out.

And it isn’t good for them if stock growth doesn’t happen because American companies lose market share.

That’s what I’m expecting. They aren’t going to fix what Musk broke and they are going ahead with tarrifs, which wasn’t Musk led.

I know there was a major disagreement between the local skilled labor and TSMC because the locals used a different, but still as effective, method of joining pipes. TSMC wanted to use Taiwanese labor instead who fitted pipes the way TSMC was used to.

Android is open source except for Google Play Services. Other major companies attempted to gain market share in Android but couldn’t because of the power of Google’s monopoly.

I don’t see how a consortium fixes this.

The studio owns the content outright, so streaming rights costs should be nothing.

I feel like part of the problem is that management wants staff that can do a wide range of tasks when it ends up creating a staff that can’t specialize in a small group of tasks.

I’ve seen plenty of times where people can operate well as a cog on a big machine, but fall apart when they have to work in roles that require a variety of skillsets. Larger engineering companies can typically create enough work for people to specialize in smaller tasks than smaller engineering companies.

They don’t want to federate.

I don’t think tech companies got caught with their pants down, they just hit the far end of the S curve regarding growth.

A lot of other “tech” companies in the past saw massive leaps in tech capabilities, then hit a wall once tech got to a certain level. Computing has hit its wall.

There is a significant public interest component to broadcast, including producing some programming for the public good and providing fair access to all. Reagan dismantled a lot of those mandates, so I don’t know what’s remaining.

That’s for actual residency. This seems to be able to exist in the country digitally. Other countries, like Estonia, have the same thing.

Given how costly it is to send inspectors on the tracks, I can see this being of value to MTA. This is also a decent use of AI.

A Google Pixel is dedicated recording hardware. It has a good enough microphone, great camera, and accelerometers to monitor vibration.

I read an Economist article about the expected impact of AI on worker productivity and it found a major bifurcation of impacts.

If AI output could be trusted as is, productivity gains mainly went to less productive workers as they were able to benefit the most from a tool doing the hard parts of the job. This could reduce wages since you can lower job requirements by using AI.

If AI output needed human processing and review, productivity gains mainly went to high performers as they were able to benefit the most from a tool doing the easy parts of the job. This could reduce employment as high performers can do more by using AI.

Spotify would have to pay for added functionality. AI slop comes for free.

Yeah, but a lot of the discussion has been about those companies given how well they pay and how dominant they are in the industry.
