  • I’d be willing to bet that most people in the world want a bigger phone.

I downsized to a iPhone 15 Pro from a iPhone 13 Pro Max thinking that I wanted a smaller phone, but I find myself missing it and planning to upgrade to the larger variety come the iPhone 17 launch. Typing has been an absolute nightmare for my hands on this smaller phone. I make more mistakes and it’s uncomfortable.

I also miss the larger screen size for viewing videos, but it’s not the end of the world there since I also have an iPad and other devices better suited for videos.

But people forget how the iPhones, in particular, were criticized by a lot of people, especially on the Android side, for not having as big of phones and Apple finally caved a few years after Steve passed. I think Steve Jobs is what held back iPhones to the smaller size they had for so long.

  • I’ve been looking for something like this too but gave up a few years ago. The ability to block channels, mainly.

But what I can say that works fairly decently, is YouTube’s recommendation system. It just doesn’t work on music if in the music section, go figure.

But like me, on Apple TV mostly, if I hold down the select button on a video, I can select “Don’t recommend channel” and I can confirm that works. This works on other devices too if you click the little 3 dots in the bottom corner of the video to get the same options I’ll describe below.

I’ve done this on a few channels and I don’t think I’ve ever seen those same ones pop up again since. I can think of 3 channels, in particular, that I used to watch a lot but then they made some videos that pissed me right the fuck off, and I selected this after unsubbing and haven’t seen those channels being recommended again. I do see them in collabs on other channels I watch, unfortunately. But thats to be expected because it’s not on their channel.

The other option is “Not interested” and then you can either say “I’ve already seen the video” or “I don’t like this video”. Using either or depending on the reason why you want to train the algorithm for your tastes.

This has worked pretty well for me and my algorithm is actually pretty decent. Why they don’t do this for music is beyond me because it works well elsewhere when YouTube is recommending me stuff.

Yeah…what we have today as “AI” makes a ton of mistakes. Well, maybe not a ton, but enough that it cannot be relied on without a human to correct it.

I use it as a foundation at work.

ChatGPT, write me a script that does this, this, and that.

I often, like 98% of the time, won’t get what I asked for or will get something that it interpreted incorrectly. It’s common sense to me but maybe not to others to not run whatever it spits out blindly. Review what it outputted, then test it somewhere. I often create a similar file structure somewhere else and test there and then after a few tests and reviewing and making modifications, then I feel comfortable running whatever it spit out to me.

But I don’t think I’ll ever not double check whatever any type of AI spits out as a response to me for whatever I’ve asked. Humans should always have the last word before action, especially when it comes to healthcare.

  • There’s an app I got for Plex for my Meta Quest 3 and I gotta say that it is top notch. They have a bunch of settings for how you’d like your environment to look like but I prefer the one that makes you feel you’re at the movies and it really does feel that way.

Not sure if that’s what you were getting at or not but I enjoy it when I’m out and about instead of using my iPad or iPhone.

Downside is that you need to sideload this which requires a Meta developer account (free, just unnecessary hassle) as far as I know. Other is that it requires Plex and not the native Netflix/etc. app. Though YouTube has a similar format in their official app.

  • I mean I want one but the only reason I don’t have one is because I’m not paying $3500 for one. And even if I could get one used for under $1000, I’m still not because a majority of customers feel the same way, so this was DOA for that reason alone. No developer is developing anything fun for this en masse with no customer base.

I think a majority of people are in this boat. People flock to anything with the apple logo on it, but this was just too damn expensive.

That headset is more expensive than most MacBooks, just for reference.
