Democrats of America, sure, have your fun and do your “I told ya so” tour, but this is also the critical moment where you have to get progressive voices in the party, front and center.
People will quickly find out that tariffs are a terrible revenue substitute for taxes just like when they tried it with Smoot-Hawley. Time to hammer home the things that did work, what brought in prosperity after the New Deal and into the 70s is 95% taxes on the wealthiest people in the world and union rights.
I mean no surprises there, but if things go as I imagine it’s not going to mean that much any more. If people in the US are buying and travelling less, that will still sink the demand for oil, and if the glut from OPEC continues then it will be game over for many producers.
America had better get ready for the world calling Trump’s “negotiating tactic” bluff.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.
From the article.
Not sure if the same thing but in Japan the Pre-purchase reservation lottery has already opened.
Excuse my patronization, but I’m getting exhausted at having to explain it over and over for defeatist Americans. You have to keep up the fight even if it’s not perfect. It brings people together. It motivates people to action and become stronger as a group rather than divided as individuals. You have a country to save from the destruction and occupation by the billionaire class. There’s so many more normal Americans than there are billionaires, you all need to be in a big group to begin to realize that. If you’ve given up, the 1%ers win by default. A movement is brewing, be part of the solution rather than throwing it away because it’s not completely coherent yet. Start peacefully, take precautions as necessary, let them put all Americans on a list and prosecute you unjustly. Pre-emptive capitulation is how you all got here.
Get out there, the minimum you can do is stand with your working class sibling. Being together rather than just sitting at home despairing IS doing something.
Country for sale! Buy now!
For the US only, lol
Markets will still consider it a win if Trump does not else good in the next 4 years except for extend the “tax cuts and jobs” billionaire and corporate handouts. He seems to be failing at that and DOGE has only made it harder in for Congress (in a budgetary sense) for them to do it.
… and increasingly view the billionaire as a political liability, a dynamic that was thrown into stark relief Tuesday when a conservative judge Musk vocally supported lost his bid for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat by 10 points.
Will the real suckers and losers, please stand up?
Vote Republican to allow Trump to raise the price of eggs, fire you from your job, take away your retirement and deport your spouse to El Salvador!
It’s happening to everybody now, more often, whether its the El Salvador deportation cases or the tourists. But the reporting on the cases receiving special attention (not primarily because they’re white, it’s because they have external connections that can connect to anglo national media), many have chosen to highlight the suffering that they witnessed of people equally as innocent but have been stuck in limbo for far longer than they have.
If plaintiffs can manage to get this private sale of x to xAI proven in court as intended to hamper this suit, could the judge then proceed to pierce the corporate veil on Musk for his malicious actions?
Have you said thank you even once?? -Vance
If you want the source of any future “technical glitches”, it’s this wilfully negligent act. Courts, take note.
Glad you are here!
There are instances of heavy-handed mod and admin actions here, but they are often held to account, generally on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com. Moderation disputes often end up discussed from a third party perspective on !fediverselore@lemmy.ca.
It is an echo chamber here too, but I have seen more often that opinions against the “narrative” getting -10 or lower but not censored. Some double down, are flamebaiting or downvote farming for unknown reasons, but there are times when you can see a genuine attempt at understanding and discussion from both parties. Over 7 years on Reddit (2016-2023), I can count how many times that happened on one hand, while on Lemmy, it’s infrequent but it happens a lot more than that.
That’s really interesting. Would be useful for research of life in early human or pre-human times.
