Indeed. I have seen lo______ol around for a while now. We need to name and shame Reddit mods. And move more people to Lemmy. Unfortunately, the Reddit boycott didn’t go well because normies have a sick compulsion to pardon any and all acts by corporate. Normies are the biggest digital masochists sans exception
Sorry, I take that back. I have edited the previous comment; I do not remember if it was Floorp or Waterfox or something else that I had heard complaints about. I think Floorp is fine. I prefer LibreWolf and Mullvad browser for the clearnet but my choices shouldn’t dictate what you should use.
Sorry, I take that back. I don’t remember which one out of Floorp or Waterfox I had heard complaints about. I think it should be fine. I still prefer Librewold and Mullvad browser because they follow the TOR browser’s hardening steps.
Just use LibreWolf. Why is Floorp even recommended anymore? Last time I heard it was a privacy nightmare
I take this back. I cannot find any proof for this statement apart from some reddit comments bashing it. I do not remember if it was floorp, zen or waterfox that I heard a lot of complaints about regarding privacy so I’ll give Floorp the benefit of the doubt.
I know that LineageOS devs were complaining about OP not giving them the unbrick tool anymore, without which they can’t test their ROM. I don’t know if anything has changed since then
The last 3 generations of OnePlus phones do not have custom ROM support AFAIK. They either refuse to unlock the bootloader or do not provide the tool to unbrick the phone anymore, making testing custom ROMs impossible
No custom ROM support == no buy from me
I see. So they’re just going to dump similar to Apple. This is slowly going to make it difficult for AOSP devs to change stuff as they need
Cons: no chance of an unlocked bootloader in the US
In theory that shouldn’t be possible unless the app runs as root. Although I’m sure somebody out there has a zero day for it. Yeah I don’t know, I don’t give any application permission to use location services, and the ones like maps I set it to “Ask me every time”. I hope that’s good enough for now
If I don’t give them permissions to use Bluetooth and cut off their access to WiFi (VPN based firewall), is this threat prevented or am I a fool?
I want to ask the same question I ask every time this comes up: how will they “ban” encryption?
Sure, they can ban the signal/session/simplex app from the app stores in the continent. Doesn’t prevent you from just downloading the APK/using any FOSS store like F-Droid and accrescent though.
The only problem I can see is that people are idiots and will go along with this, and then share confidential information with you, who is trying to maintain good digital privacy and hygiene, and by extension shine a spotlight on your behaviour to alert the local police force that you’re trying to have a private digital life. I try to be strict with my family about these things but both the older and young folk don’t care at all.
